Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced a special package for the rehabilitation of shop owners, mutts and houses coming within the security zone of Sri Jaganath temple, Puri. The compensation would be paid as per the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, rehabilitation, and Resettlement Act , 2013, along with the Relief and Rehabilitation Policy of the state government to acquire land and other property lying in the security zone of the Mandir.
Odisha government has accepted the recommendations of the Justice B P Das Committee to create a security zone within 75 metre radius of the Sri Jagannath temple and started demolishing the shops, houses, mutts and lodges coming within the security zone. Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik had announced a Rs.500 crore package on August 23 last for the security of the Jaganath temple and to make Puri a world class heritage city.
As per the policy all the displaced families would be given an assistance of Rs 50,000 for the shifting and other expenses. The displaced families would be given a house rent of Rs 10,000 per month till they get either house or land. The families who would take one time assistance for their rehabilitation would not be eligible for house rent. The displaced families can take one time assistance of Rs 30 lakh or opt to take a 520 square foot house in the proposed Relief and rehabilitation colony within 1.5 KM area of the temple or can avail a 40x 25 feet plot within two KM area of the temple.
The Chief Minister announced to make provision for the rehabilitation of every shop falling within the security zone.The shop owners displaced from the security zone could either take shops to be given in various market complex with the assistance of the district Collector or can avail a monthly rent of Rs 5,000, Rs 10,000 or Rs 15,000 for shops constructed on built up area of less than 200 square feet, 200 to 500 square feet and on more than 500 square feet area respectively.
An immediate assistance of Rs 10 lakh will be provided for lodges constructed on an built up area of more than 3,000 square feet and Rs 5 lakh for lodged constructed on less than 3,000 square feet. In addition to it an assistance of Rs 25 per square foot would be given to each lodge for a period of 18 months. The lodge owners can take one time assistance of Rs 2,000 per square foot of the built up area or can take land on both sides of the grand road for the construction of their lodge.
The government also announced a package for the conservation and rehabilitation of Mutts. Patnaik announced to provide ten per cent more assistance to those who would voluntarily hand over their land to the government within 30 days of the publication of the notice.
