Raise Kalinga Regiment in Indian Army: BJD MP

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) lawmaker Sasmit Patra on Thursday demanded establishment of Kalinga Regiment in Indian Army in the Rajya Sabha.

The demand was first made by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in 2015. “Considering the contribution made by the state, the government should raise the Kalinga Regiment,”  Patra said during Zero Hour.

All India Trinamool Congress MP Shanta Chhetri urged the Defence Ministry to reconsider its decision with regards to shifting of Siliguri-based military hospital to Assam or Arunachal Pradesh. She also asked for specialist doctors to be posted in it.

BJP’s CM Ramesh requested for interlinking of rivers, including Godavari and Cauvery, to sort out the water crisis in the southern states.

Kahkashan Perveen of JDU advocated for providing first-aid treatment to pregnant women traveling in train.

Kirori Lal Meena of BJP aksed the government to create international pressure on Pakistan against atrocities committed on Hindus, Sikhs and Christians. He said cases of conversions of minorities is on a rise after Pulwama airstrike.

CPM’s Jharna Das Baidya raised the issue of contract teachers across the country. “The contract teachers are working in schools since last 12-15 years but they have not been kept on permanent basis. The Centre should grants funds to the state governments to keep them on permanent basis,” she said.

BJP’s Rakesh Sinha requested the government to revive Kanwar Lake in Begusarai district of Bihar in consultation with state government and tourism ministry.

Congress’ T Subbarami Reddy raised the issue of missing children and urged the Centre to set up a special cell to tackle the menace.

Partap Singh Bajwa of Congress asked the government to lay extra focus on Punjab borders with regards to drug peddling.  (UNI)
