The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the petition filed by Congress leader and former finance minister P Chidambaram challenging the Delhi High Court order, which had rejected his anticipatory bail plea in the INX media case, being probed by the CBI.
A bench of the Apex Court, headed by Justice R Banumathi rejected Chidamabaram petition terming it ‘infructuous’. “We dismiss the petition filed by the accused petitioner (Chidamabaram) in the case,” the bench said.
The Top Court also asked Chidambaram to move a regular bail, if he wanted to, before the appropriate or concerned court. The bench also added that the trial court must consider the application for regular bail without being influenced by the observations made by the High Court.
The court says the petition becomes infructuous, since Chidambram has already been arrested on August 21. (UNI)
