Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday moved a resolution seeking abrogation of Article 370 (3) amid Opposition uproar. He also moved a bill to provide status of Union Territory to Ladakh and a separate Union Territory for Jammu and Kashmir.
Shah moved Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, 2019. The Home Minister said Ladakh will get status of Union Territory without Legislature. He said the “existing state of Jammu and Kashmir will be a separate Union Territory” with an Assembly.
Shah said “There has been a long-pending demanding of people of Ladakh, to give it the status of a Union Territory to enable them to realise their aspirations.” ‘The Ladakh Division of the State of Jammu and Kashmir has a large area but is sparsely populated with a difficult terrain.
‘There has been along pending demand of people of Ladakh, to give it the status of a Union Territory to enable them to realise their aspiration. ‘The Union Territory of Ladakh will be without Legislature,’ he said. Further, keeping in view the prevailing internal security situation, fuelled by cross border terrorism in the existing state of Jammu and Kashmir, a separate Union Territory for Jammu and Kashmir is being created. The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will be with legislature.
Amid opposition uproar, Shah moved a resolution Article 370 granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir will be revoked.
