The big divide in the offing in Cong: Ramesh criticises Tharoor for praising PM

Tharoor joins voice with BJP to dismiss Trump claim over Kashmir dispute

Senior Congress leader and Opposition leader in Kerala Assembly Ramesh Chennithala on Monday criticised party Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor for praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi who said that the latter should be applauded for doing the right things.

Talking to newspersons in Alappuzha,  Ramesh said the Congress party will not support those who praise   Modi. He added one can’t ignore the ‘anti-people’ acts of  Modi in the past.

“We should not glorify on one good act of Prime Minister who allegedly committed thousands of wrongdoings.  The rule of   Modi and his actions are not supported by the people here” Ramesh added.

It may be noted that Congress leaders —Abhishe Manu Singhvi and Shashi Tharoor came out in support of another party leader Jairam Ramesh on Friday, saying criticising   Narendra Modi was ‘wrong’ and the Prime Minister should be praised for doing the right things.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader and MP, K Muralidharan, said ‘Congress leaders who want to praise  Modi can quit the party and join the BJP’.

‘Such leaders should stop this unacceptable act while continuing in the Congress party’, he added.

Mr Muralidharan said this after a war of words erupted between Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala and Congress MP Sashi Tharoor in this regard.

Reacting to the criticism on him by other Congress leaders in the state, Mr Tharoor said he does not require lessons from leaders having a different of opinion on the issue.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President Mullapally Ramachandran said  Tharoor’s praising  Modi was ‘unfortunate’ and added he would speak with him. (UNI)
