Unnao rape case: SC seeks probe report from CBI by noon

The Supreme Court on Thursday sought presence of a ‘responsible’ Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer to apprise it about the probe in the Unnao rape case by noon. A bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, directed a ‘responsible’ officer from the investigating agency to appear before it at 1200 hrs.

“We are seeking a status report from the CBI officer by 12 today. We will hear the matter today at 12 pm,” the bench added.
In fact it was a long drawn case that has created a lot of political ripples and has caused a huge embarassment for the NDA whose lawmaker Kuldip Singh Sengar is the prime accused.

Besides the political repercussions, the issue has caused untold misery for the victim’s family as few of them have already become target of the alleged criminal designs knitted by Senegar.
