Barring few stray incidents, the polling was underway in five constituencies of Bihar during the third phase of Lok Sabha election peacefully even as at least 33.78 per cent voters exercised their franchise till 1300 hrs today.
Sources at the Election Office said that Araria constituency recorded highest 39 per cent voting each followed by 36 per cent in Khagaria, 33 per cent in Supaul, 31.25 per cent in Jhanjharpur and 30 per cent in Madhepura.
More than 89 lakhs voters comprising 46.55 lakh male and 42.44 lakh female voters are eligible to exercise their franchise at 9,076 polling booths in the third phase of Lok Sabha election in Bihar.
Meanwhile, some voters complained that votes were being cast on a single symbol when any button was pressed at polling booth numbers- 151, 152 and 153 in Narpatganj assembly segment in Araria Lok Sabha constituency triggering clash between supporters of two parties present at these booths. Police resorted to mild baton charge to control the situation but nobody was injured in it.
Prominent candidates whose fates would be decided by electorate in third phase of Lok Sabha elections in Bihar are Sharad Yadav of RJD from Madhepura, sitting Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan from Supaul, sitting LJP MP Chaudhary Mehboob Ali Kaisar from Khagaria, Bihar Disaster Management Minister Dinesh Chandra Yadav of JD (U) from Madhepura and president of Vikasshil Insan Party (VIP) Mukesh Sahni from Khagarai. Sitting RJD MP Sarfaraz Alam is contesting from Araria while firebrand leader Pradeep Singh of BJP is also contesting from the same seat.
