While stating that the “Chowkidar Chor Hai” is a political campaign which has been going on for the last one and half years and will continue in future as well, the Congress on Tuesday said that the party leaders have never said that the Supreme Court endorses this campaign.
Addressing mediapersons here, the Congress leader and spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that this slogan is being used by the Congress President Rahul Gandhi and other leaders since one and half years.
Rahul Gandhi has given his explanation to the apex court that he never intended to say that the SC has also said that ‘Chowkidar Chor hai’ (the watchman is a thief)”, Singhvi said. He also said that this slogan is not new but an old one. This is an entirely political campaign and the party will continued it in future too.
“Chowkidar Chor Hai is a political slogan and when asked by the apex court, Gandhi has given an explanation and accepted his mistake but said that he is not changing his stand on this issue”, Singhvi added. Singhvi said that the court was also been told that the BJP is politicising this issue. ‘It is using this issue for electoral gains,Singhvi said.
He said that the court heard the eexplanation by Gandhi. ‘We had urged the court to end the matter but this has not been done by the court. We woill appear before the court on the matter again on Wednesday,’he said.
Asked whether the court had asked the Congress president to appear before it next week after bewing dissatisfied over his reply, Mr Singhvi said,’Mr gandhi had made the comments ‘chowkidar chor hai’ in Bihar and on this basis the Supreme corut had asked for an explanation from him.’
In his explanation to the court, mr Gandhi has said that the political slogan will continue to be used in the campaign. However, he has told the court that it was never his intention to misuse the verdict of the court. (UNI)
