Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife cast their votes in Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency in the third and final phase polling in Assam today.
Dr Singh and Gurcharan Kaur exercised their franchise at the Dispur Government Higher Secondary School in Super Market area of Guwahati in the afternoon.
The couple had flown in from New Delhi to especially participate in the polling process and is scheduled to return in the evening after a stopover at their rented accommodation in the city, which Dr Singh lists as his permanent address.
After casting their votes, they briefly posed for photographs and were greeted outside the polling station by Congress’ Guwahati candidate Bobbeeta Sharma, state Congress president Ripun Bora and Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Debabrata Saikia, among others.
Singh had cast his vote here in past several elections, including in 2009 and 2014 General Election and 2016 state Assembly election.
The former prime minister and his wife are registered voters in Dispur legislative assembly constituency, under Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency.
The former two-time PM has been representing Assam in the Rajya Sabha since1991.
Singh is a tenant of Hemoprava Saikia, former minister and widow of Assam CM Hiteswar Saikia, at her Sarumotoria (Dispur) residence.
He lists this rented accommodation as his permanent address in all official documents since 1991. (UNI)
