At least four people were killed and 100 injured as five compartments of Upaban Express train derailed on Boromchal Bridge at Kulaura in Moulvibazar in northeastern Bangladesh on Sunday night, an official said on Monday.
Nurun Nabi, a local fire service official, told Xinhua that the accident happened around 2350 hours local time on Sunday night.
According to the official, one of the carriages of the train, heading to Dhaka from northeaster Sylhet city, fell into a canal while two others fell close to the canal’s banks, Xinhua further reported.
Darkness is hindering the rescue process, said police officials.
Mr Nabi feared that the death toll may rise.
