Hours after the Supreme Court ordered to shift the Unnao rape and accident cases to Delhi, Congress general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh (East), Priyanka Gandhi slammed the Yogi Adityanath government in the state and the BJP. “Grateful to the Supreme Court for taking cognisance of the ‘Jungle Raj’ being unleashed in U.P”, tweeted Priyanka.
Referring to the BJP’s Thursday act that expelled its rape accused MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, the Congress general secretary lashed out at the saffron party and said, “finally (it) acknowledges having empowered a criminal and takes some action to correct itself and move in the direction of justice for a young woman who has suffered immeasurably”.
Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court ordered shifting of cases related to Unnao rape, in which Mr Sengar is the main accused, and the accident that occurred last week critically injuring the rape survivor and her advocate, and killing her two aunts, to a ‘competent’ court in Delhi. The apex court also directed that the trial should be concluded within 45 days.
A bench, headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi also asked to give protection to the rape survivor and her family and asked CBI to conclude the probe on accident within seven days. The Congress party also welcomed the apex court order and said, “we welcome the Supreme Court’s orders to transfer all the cases related to Unnao rape and accident case out of UP. We hope the victim and her family will see the light of justice soon.
Continuing the attack on Adityanath government and the BJP, Ms Priyanka on Thursday morning, while referred to the incident in which a girl student from Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh questioned the law and order situation in the state, said “the question is on the mind of every girl and woman today”.
“If a crime is committed by a powerful person, will our protest against him be registered. This is the question a girl student had asked about the corrupt government. It’s the question that every girl and woman is asking today”, Ms Priyanka tweeted in Hindi.
