‘No decision’ on printing of Rs 2,000 note, says Govt

‘No decision’ has been taken regarding printing of Rs 2,000 note, the Government said on Friday, a day after a report was published that the Reserve Bank of India has stopped the printing of Rs 2,000 note to reduce its circulation.

The Government has also ?more than adequate? notes of Rs 2,000 in the system with more than 35 per cent of notes by values in circulation, Department of Economic Affairs Secretary Subhash Chandra Garg said on Twitter.

“Printing of notes is planned as per the projected requirement. We have more than adequate notes of Rs 2000 in the system with over 35% of notes by value in circulation being of Rs 2000. There has been no decision regarding 2000 rupee note production recently.”

 

On Thursday, according to a news report, the central bank has stopped the printing of the highest currency value note to scale down its circulation in public. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the introduction of Rs 2,000 note after banning Rs 1,000 note and Rs 500 note on November 8, 2016. (UNI)
