Kendrapara,Oct 19 Rajnagar Police, on Saturday arrested 12 cattle traders and seized 33 cattle, a truck and two other vehicles at Jali chowk near Hansua bridge under Rajnagar police station. IIC of Rajnagar police station Tapan Kumar Nayak said the Bajarang Dal activists led by Shiba Prasad Mohapatra in wee hour today came across several cattle being illegally transported from Rajnagar area to other places in a truck.
The Bajrang Dal activists followed the cattle-laden truck and intercepted the cattle traders, who were moving on another vehicle , near Jali chowk . The cattle trader allegedly misbehaved and assaulted Shiba Prasad Mohapatra who informed the Rajnagar police. The Rajnagar police with the help of Pattamundai counterparts led by the IIC of Rajnagar, Tapan Nayak, rushed to the spot and intercepted the truck carrying the cattle and arrested 12 people.
The Police later seized 33 cattle, including bulls and calves, from the truck but failed to arrest driver and helper of the cattle laden truck. The arrested cattle traders belonged to Bhadrak, Jajpur and Kendrapara districts. The police suspected that the cattle were possible transported illegally to West Bengal.
Rajnagar police has registered a case under Section 294,500,34 IPC; Section 11(i)(d) Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act Section 192,194 of M.V. Act. All the arrested persons were later produced before the JMFC court of Rajnagar, Mr. Nayak said.
