15.29 lakh pre-litigation cases in courts disposed of by e-Lok Adalats: Rijiju

New Delhi: Law minister Kiren Rijiju on Friday informed the Lok Sabha that 15.29 lakh pre-litigation cases and 8.17 lakh pending cases in courts have been disposed of by e-Lok Adalats during June 2020 to December last year. He said, the first e-Lok Adalat was held in Madhya Pradesh on June 27, 2020. In a written reply to questions, Rijiju said over 12.81 lakh beneficiaries have been provided pre-litigation advice till 31st December 2021 under Tele-law scheme. The government has launched the Citizens’ Tele-Law Mobile App on 13 November 2021.

The minister also informed that since Covid lockdown started, the Districts Courts heard over one crore eight lakh thirty six thousand cases while the High Court heard over 57.39 lakh cases till November 30 last year using video conferencing only. Rijiju said the Supreme Court held 1,81,909 hearings till January 8 this year since the beginning of lockdown period making it the world leader in video conferencing hearings. The minister also said funds have been sanctioned for additional VC equipment for fourteen thousand four hundred forty three court rooms.
