Ministry of Defence has ordered a Court of inquiry into to fire mishap in which more than 150 cars were gutted in the parking area of ongoing Aero India 2019 at Yelahanka Air base on the outskirts of the City on Saturday.
MoD has requested the Department of Financial Services (DFS) to open a special insurance claim cell to facilitate speedy claims for the affected people, according to official sources.
As the morning session of the Aero show, in which Surya Kiran team participating for the first time in this show enthralled thousands of people who had assembled, was completed much after fire mishap took place at the parking plot. Many other air display teams including foreign and Indian aircraft had completed the air display before he infterno that put huge plume of black smoke on the other side of the Air Force Station that did not affect any military or civilian aircraft participating in Aero India.
Suryakiran team was withdrawn immediately after mid air crash on Tuesday during rehearsal in which one pilot was killed and other two undergoing treatment at Military Command Hospital in the city.
According to Ministry of Defence release here, “Today morning at around 1155hrs an unfortunate incident occurred, wherein fire broke out in one of the parking areas outside the venue of Aero India 2019. The parking area is located well away from the Aero India venue on the other side of the highway. All available fire fighting services, Rapid Action Force and NDRF teams were immediately mobilised. IAF immediately launched one helicopter for aerial assessment, the helicopter assisted by providing effective directions to fight the fire. The fire was brought under control by deploying more than 12 fire fighting vehicles. The cause of the fire was not immediatly known.
The Air Show and Aero India venues were unaffected. There was no loss of life or injury, however, as per existing estimates around 150 vehicles were burnt / damaged in the process. Details of damage to vehicles is being ascertained. Afternoon air display continued on time.
According to sources the second session of the Aero Show by iron birds continued as scheduled.
