Shiramani Akali Dal (SAD) on Monday pressed for expulsion of Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu from the Congress party and also from the state cabinet.
SAD stalwart and former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal told reporters that while the stance taken by Congress president Rahul Gandhi to back the NDA regime at this juncture was ‘appreciable’, “my request is he (Rahul) should also take action against Sidhu….He is the only person now in the country who is backing Pakistan”.
The big furor has been sparked off after cricketer-turned-politician Mr Sidhu had said that entire Pakistan could not be blamed for the act of few terrorists.
“I will stick to my comment. Whether it’s today, tomorrow or any other day I will stick to my comment. that for the sake of few terrorists, we can’t stop development…..Terrorist have no nation, religion or caste. Don’t target anyone else,” he had said aftermath Pulwama attack.
Badal said Sidhu’s stance is “unfortunate”.
The issue also figured in the Punjab assembly on Monday with Akali leaders demanding that Punjab government should stopping in two language with Mr Sidhu going soft on Pakistan while the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh taking tough stance against the western neighbour.
Badal also went on to say that besides dropping Sidhu from the cabinet and Congress expelling him, there should be a ‘police case’ initiated against him for his remarks. (UNI)
