BJP president Amit Shah rushed to the Uttar Pradesh capital to review the poll preparedness of the party candidates in Awadh region besides discussing candidates for seats like Gorakhpur and Deoria.
Mr Shah, who arrived here at 2300 hrs on Monday, reached the state BJP headquarters and immediately sat with the senior party leaders to review constituency wise poll prospects.
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, state BJP president Mahendra Nath Pandey, Lok Sabha in-charge and Union minister J P Nadda, state general secretary (Organisation) Sunil Bansal along with other senior leaders were present in the meeting.
BJP sources here on Tuesday said that the party president took the stock of the situation in 16 Lok Sabha constituencies of Awadh region besides discussed about the candidates for Gorakhpur, Deoria and some other seats to be left for the NDA partners.
“Mr Shah sought ground report of all the constituencies in the Awadh region and directed the leaders to intensify their campaigning and coordinate with the booth-level workers,” sources said.
Mr Shah was keen to know the ground reality of the new candidates fielded by the party, replacing the old sitting ones and whether the old leaders can disturb the BJP’s poll prospect.
The BJP president on Tuesday morning left for Telangana from Lucknow airport where Mr Adityanath was also present.
The 16 constituencies discussed in the meeting are Lucknow, Mohanlalganj, Rae Bareli, Unnao, Sitapur, Dhaurara, Lakhimpur Kheri, Hardoi, Mishrikh, Faizabad, Barabanki, Ambedkarnagar, Gonda, Shravasti, Bahriach and Kaiserganj. Except for Rae Bareli, all other seats were bagged by the BJP in 2014 elections.
