ASI of Rengali police station Dronacharjya Sahu was seen in the video assaulting tribal lady Suru Majhi and using abusive language.
The video went viral triggering widespread resentment among the people against the inhuman action of the police officer inside the police station.
Sambalpur SP Sanjeev Arora who inquired into the incident by Additional SP Pradeep Mahapatra finally suspended the erring police official to pacify the anger of the people who demanded stern action against the ASI.
The members of the Odisha Civil Liberty Forum (OCLF) and several other organisations here demanded arrest of the ASI and criminal proceedings against the ASI under the Women Atrocities Act.
It needs to be mentioned that the incident took place during the Ganesh Puja procession of last year but the video went viral recently. (UNI)
