One of the Muslim parties in the Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri masjid land dispute case, on Wednesday, submitted to a five-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court, that the idol was shifted from ‘chabutra’ to the central dome and the phrase ‘janmasthan’ is meaningless.
Dr Rajeev Dhavan, senior counsel appearing for one of the Muslim parties, told the bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, that the Hindus in 1885 denied Raghubar Das was a Mahant and later accepted it. ‘You see it, my lord.’
Under scrutiny of the apex court are a batch of appeals against the 2010 Allahabad High Court trifurcation of the 2.77 acres disputed site at Ayodhya. Dr Dhavan also observed that the attack on appellant, Iqbal Ansari, was unfortunate. (UNI)
