Lucknow, Jan 23 (UNI) Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav has demanded that ballot papers should be used instead of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in upcoming Lok Sabha elections to secure faith of public on electoral system of the country and to strengthen healthy democracy.
In a statement released here on Wednesday, Mr Yadav said that the ‘adamant behaviour’ of Bhratiya Janata Party (BJP) on EVMs is totally unjustified. He said that doubts were raised on use of EVMs and SP demands used of ballot papers for transparent and clear elections.
Mr Yadav said that technology can be misused for political gains and ‘technological literate’ society should also raise voice against use of EVMs profoundly. He said that ballot papers will strengthen faith of public on electoral system and under such doubtful situation EVMs should not be used.
SP president said that complaints of malfunctioning of EVMs were reported in previous elections. Huge number of population had to wait in queue due to fault of technology in by-polls also he said adding that for democratic values and honour of public’s faith ballot papers should be used in Lok Sabha elections.
