“BGBS - Once in Two Years- A Step in the Right Direction”: Bharat Chamber

Welcoming Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s decision to hold the Bengal Global Business Summit once in every two years, Sitaram Sharma, president, Bharat Chamber of Commerce, commented, “This will provide the State Government sufficient time to implement the pending investment proposals received during the business summits held earlier before seeking fresh proposals in the next edition of the Summit.”
The 5th edition of BGBS successfully revitalized the pace of investments in the State with 86 MoUs signed and Rs. 2.84 lakh crore proposals received that promised 8-10 lakhs additional employment generation.

Sharma felt that the move taken by the Chief Minister was pragmatic and in the right direction.
He stated, “By the next BGBS, slated to be held in 2021, it is expected that most of the business proposals and MoUs signed by the State Government with PSUs and domestic investors will be implemented and the State will project the true growth in investments made in the last few years.”

He further added, “Globally, such initiatives undertaken by Governments, in order to procure investments and at the same time to look for new opportunities are held in alternate years.”
