Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel here on Monday lodged a written complaint with the Election Commission against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ‘violating’ the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for mentioning the name of ‘Army’ at recent election rally in the state.
Mr Baghel, along with other senior Congress leaders visited Office of Chief Electoral Officer Subrat Sahoo and handed over the complaint letter.
The Chief Minister also handed over a soft copy of Modi’s address at election rally held in Balod on April 6. According to Baghel’s allegations, Mr Modi violated the MCC for five times during his address.
Mr Baghel said that Mr Modi did not mention any of the development works of his five-year tenure, rather ‘tried’ to win applause under the pretext of Army’s bravery and courage. Mr Modi went on referring to the lines such as self-reliance of Army, surgical strike, air strike and removal of protective cover from jawans, Baghel alleged.
The Chief Minister also said Mr Modi, in his address, mentioned about recent anti-satellite missile test in an ‘attempt’ to take “political advantage”. All such issues pertain to country’s security and that they cannot be misused for political advantage, Mr Baghel said.
Referring to the Election Commission guidelines, Mr Baghel in his complaint alleged the Prime Minister was openly violating all such guidelines.
