BJP's manifesto a 'balloon of lies': Congress

Calling the BJP’s election manifesto 2019 as a ‘balloon of lies’, the Congress on Monday said that the BJP should first give an account of the work done in its five-year tenure to the people of the country.

Addressing a press conference here, senior Congress leader and AICC treasurer Ahmed patel, AICC media incharge Randeep Surjewala and head of the AICC research department Rajeev Gowda said,’BJP should give the account of its five-year tenure to the people of the country. Five years ago, several promises were made to farmers, poor, traders, youth, women etc. They should be told and what happened to those promises.

The country remembers what the BJP promised — Rs 15 lakh to every citizen, employment to over 2 crore people, doubling of the farmers’ income and women security. The BJP government has failed on all these promises. The people of the country won’t forgive you (BJP government)”.

Attacking the BJP, Ahmad Patel said that instead of manifesto, they should have brought ‘mafinama’(apology letter).

“Their manifesto does not say about how many jobs were created, about the condition of famers? You can misguide a section of the society but not all. This is nothing but a balloon of lies which will not last long”, he alleged.

He also took potshots of the BJP for not taking any questions on its manifesto.

‘After we presented our manifesto, we held a detailed Q and A session . And immediately after BJP presented its manifesto, all of their leaders went home without even taking a single question

No answers on their 5 years?

It is this arrogance which will bring them down on May 23.’

He further alleged, “one can see easily that how BJP is only about me, mine and myself.”

‘Instead of ‘Sankalp Patr’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi should have issued a ‘maafinama’ (apology),’Mr patel said.

“The difference between BJP manifesto and Congress manifesto can be seen firstly from the cover page. Our’s has a crowd of people, and BJP manifesto has face of just one man.Congress believes on democracy and public is everything for us, but for BJP only one person is important,” Mr Patel said.

‘The BJP has simply copy pasted its 2014 poll document and changed all previous deadlines. What has been said in BJP manifesto is not going to work anymore,’ Mr Patel said.

Speaking about the BJP manifesto, AICC media incharge Randeep Surjewala said,’when it comes to work the sheet of the NDA Government is blank.’

Attacking the BJP on the issue of corruption, the Congress leaders said,’the BJP had promised to eliminate corruption. But it has not appointed Lokpal in five years. Over 14.5 lakh RTI requests are pending. Around 40 per cent RTIs were rejected in 2018 alone.’

Mr Surjewala said the Congress party will release a paper on 125 hollow promises made by the BJP in last five years.

‘What happened to 125 promises of 2014?When someone does not do their job, then they give excuses. They blame others for their failure and create new excuses everyday,’ Mr Surjewala said.

He said that the BJP leaders ‘deliberately’ skipped the words such as GST, demonetisation, black money and unemployment, Mr Surjewala said..

In an apparent reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr Surjewala said,“ He promised two crore job every year in 2014 but in reality, the country has lost 4.7 crore jobs has been lost in five years”.

Mr Surjewala said that Congress has outlined 11 false declarations of BJP’s manifesto.
