Chandigarh CEO bars print media from publishing political advertisements during polls

In regard to the Model Code of Conduct ruled by ECI in March, Chandigarh Chief Electoral Office on Monday stated that no political advertisement is to be published in print media on 18th and 19th May unless it is pre-certified by the District MCMC committee constituted by the Chandigarh Administration.
The Election Commission of India in its general advisory regarding ‘Pre-Certification’ of political advertisements in print media ruled out in March that no political advertisements of inflammatory, offending, misleading or hate nature will be printed in the print media, directing that no political party or candidate or any organisation or person shall publish any political advertisement in the print media one day prior and on the day of poll in all phases, unless the content of political advertisement is pre-certified by them from the MCMC committe at the state and district level.
