Avantika Sood, daughter of the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Takur, had a lifetime experience after she struck, not finding a way out from swollen Malaprabha River amid the unprecedented floods that had crippled normal life in North Karnataka but thanked the local people and officials for helping her from the tricky situation.
Avantika, a second year engineering student, was visiting Badami Caves, a World Heritage site in the district along with her classmates, travelling in a luxury bus from Udupi where she is studying in a reputed tech school.
The vehicle carrying the students got struck in the swollen river of Malaprabha and had to got down mid-way trudged their way amid flood waters to their destination. The students, numbering over 45, had to troll-off knee deep water and walked down to Hosur village, where they were provided shelter to spend their night.
The villagers, who had provided accommodation, had also arranged for breakfast, and the district administration helped them to return back to Manipal in Udupi district, safely. Avantika, thanked the villagers and also the district administration for taking care of them when they were in trouble.
