Cong on Augusta chargesheet: Cheap stunt by BJP to divert attention from imminent defeat

Lashing out at Narendra Modi government over the allegedly leaked information from the chargesheet, which indicted its leaders, on the AugustaWestland chopper deal, the Congress on Friday said that ‘it is a cheap election stunt to divert attention from imminent defeat of Modi government.’

“A single uncertified page leaked by Enforcement Directorate of a purported chargesheet is a cheap election stunt to divert attention from imminent defeat of Modi Govt”, said AICC media in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala in a statement.

He alleged that the ED has become ‘Election Dhakosla’ of a government ‘manufacturing a lie a day’.

The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday filed its fourth supplementary chargesheet under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act in this case in a Delhi court and said kickbacks were paid to important political leaders, defence officials, bureaucrats and media persons.

The ED also claimed that Christian Michel, the alleged middleman, extradited from UAE, identified abbreviation like ‘AP’ as Ahmed Patel and ‘Fam’ as Family, in the ‘budget sheet,’ which reportedly contains the details of the payment.

Furthering his allegation, the Congress spokesperson said that Modi Government loses all litigations against AgustaWestland and Finmecanica.

He said that on January 8, 2018, an Italian Appeals Court acquitted Mr Giuseppe Orsi, Former Chief Executive and Mr Bruno Spagnolini, Former Head of Helicopter Unit from any wrongdoing in the sale of 12 helicopters to India.

“Modi Government was a civil party for damages”, he added.

Mr Surjewala said on September 17, 2018, a Higher court in Milan, Italy affirmed the order in a 322 page detailed judgement and upheld the finding of ‘no graft or wrong doing’ by any Indian official.

“Modi Government was a party in the case and lost. Modi Government has chosen to not file an appeal in the matter”, the Congress leader said.

“All these rehashed insinuations and lies were bundled out earlier too through a set of pliable media. Ultimately, they failed in an international court and were rejected as trash”, Mr Surjewala added.

Calling ED as Modi government’s puppet, the Congress spokesperson said that a panic-stricken government will not be able to change the ‘exit date and fate’ of a Government and Prime Minister is already rejected by the people. (UNI)
