India needs bullet proof jackets for the jawans instead of bullet trains, Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee has said.
‘Our jawans keep our borders safe. They sacrifice their lives so that we can stay safe. Before bullet trains, we need bullet proof jackets for our jawans,’ Mr Banerjee, who is Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew, tweeted yesterday.
‘There are times one needs to go beyond just words… after Pulwama,’ the MP said.
The parliamentarian said he would donate three months’ salary as an MP to fund meant for the welfare of armed forces and proposed to set up a corpus to raise awareness among young minds of the country.
He also appealed for communal harmony.
The TMC youth leader further advocated a legislation to ensure that one member of every household joins the armed forces.
