CRPF begins process to take over security of Gandhi family

New Delhi, Nov 11 (UNI) The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has initiated the process to take over the security of Interim Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra who have been downgraded from Special Protection Group to CRPF’s Z plus security cover from.

A source in the security set up said that at present CRPF is assessing the security need of the protectees and accordingly it will deploy the CRPF trained commandos.

Under the new security cover, the Gandhi family will be getting round the clock security cover of CRPF trained personnel and a Pilot car.

Recently, the security of the Gandhi family has been withdrawn from the SPG security cover has been taken after assessing threat inputs from all agencies.

In recent past, there has been no direct threat to the Gandhi family, according to sources.

The government had downgraded the security cover of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Singh’s security cover was downgraded from SPG to Z Plus security of CRPF
