Delhi Court asks police to file status report in lawyers-police clash at Tis Hazari

New Delhi, Nov 11 (UNI) A Delhi Court on Monday directed Delhi Police to file a status report by November 20 on the investigation into the clashes between lawyers and police at the Tis Hazari court.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jitendra Singh also asked the Delhi Police Crime Branch, which is probing the cases, to preserve all relevant CCTV footage available of the incident.

The court was hearing pleas of the Delhi Bar Association (DBA) of Tis Hazari court which has sought a status report on the investigation in the case of alleged assault on a lawyer by the police inside the lockup of the court and alleged firing on other lawyers.

The petition also demanded the arrest of the police personnel who opened fire on lawyers.

Government Counsel submitted before the court that fair investigation was carried out by the crime branch of Delhi Police.

Counsel for DBA submitted that proper and fair investigation was not taking place because the statements of the witnesses or advocates present at the time of the incident were not recorded and police have failed to seize the weapon of the offence.

Counsel said even no custodial interrogation was carried out in the case.
