Patna, Nov 12 (UNI) Lakhs of devotees today took holy dip in sacred Ganga and other rivers and offered Puja in temples in Bihar on the occasion of Kartik Purnima. A large number of devotees thronged Ganga river in the state capital since last midnight and took holy dip amid chanting of hymns and also paid their obeisance in temples located on its bank. Kali ghat, Krishna ghat, Gandhi Ghat, Patna College ghat and Collectorate ghat witnessed the heavy rush of devotees where security personnel had a tough time in controlling the crowd.
People from rural areas in Patna district were seen enthusiastic in taking a dip in holy Ganga river, which according to Hindu mythology, also washes away sins of not only this life but of past lives as well. Sadhus, priests and beggars were also seen in large numbers who were chanting hymns marking the occasion and creating a sense of piousness and purity among the devotees coming to take a holy dip in Ganga river.
Petty businessmen did not lag in taking commercial advantage of the occasion and put up makeshift stalls on the bank of Ganga river. Women devotees were potential buyers and they were seen purchasing bangles, vermilion, articles used for puja and other essentials. People purchase these articles to mark the holy occasion.
