Debt on country increased by 57 per cent under Modi Govt: Cong

Charging the Modi government with putting the country into debt, the Congress on Tuesday said due to the government’s ”financial mismanagement” over the past five years, the debt burden on the citizens has increased by more than 57 per cent to Rs 90 lakh crore.
Addressing a press conference here, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, ”According to figures of the finance ministry, after March 2014, by taking an additional loan amount of Rs 30,28,945 crore, the government has put the people of the country under debt.”
He said that there was a debt of Rs 53,11,081 crore on the country till March 2014, but by December 2018, the debt increased 57 per cent to Rs 83,40,026 crore.
”Never before has any government taken so much loans as the Modi government took in five years,” the Congress spokesperson said.
The Modi government has put the country under debt of more than Rs 90 lakh crore in five years, he alleged.
”On one hand, the countrymen are being put under debt burden and on the other,the Modi Government has waived Rs 5,50,000 crore of selected industrialists’ friends,” he said.
The NPA of the banks has increased to Rs 12,00,000 crore, he said.
