Delhi Assembly okays Rs 140 cr for buses, Rs 150 cr for DMRC

The Delhi Assembly on Monday approved Rs 479 crore Supplementary Grant for the Transport Sector. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Manish Sisodia presented the first batch of Supplementary Demands for Grants for the Financial Year 2019-2020 in the House.

Under the Supplementary Demands, there is Rs 140 crore provision for free transport for women in buses (DTC and cluster buses) and Rs 150 crore subsidy to DMRC for women commuters under free Metro travel scheme for women.

The Delhi Government has provided Rs 90 crore subsidy to DTC for women commuters while Rs 50 crore subsidy has been provided to cluster buses for women commuters.

Under the Supplementary Demands for Grants, Rs 47 crore has been provided for RRTS corridors. Under the Supplementary Demands for Grants, there is a provision of Rs 142 crore for marshals in all buses.

The Supplementary Demands for Grants was passed by voice vote in the House.
On August 15, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that women of Delhi will travel free in all DTC and cluster buses from October 29th this year.

The announcement was made by the Chief Minister in his Independence Day address at the Chhatrasal Stadium.Earlier on June 3,   Kejriwal announced that there will be free travel for all women commuters in Delhi metro and buses in the National Capital under a new scheme.

Delhi Government will bear the cost for the scheme,  Kejriwal had said. (UNI)
