The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hit political rough weather on Monday owing to a controversial comment by its local parliamentarian Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur at a programme in Bhopal for paying tributes to erstwhile Finance minister Arun Jaitley and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Babulal Gaur.
“Recently, someone warned me vis-a-vis the Opposition and – as three of our senior leaders passed away – I am wondering why the warning was issued,” the politician averred thereby sparking off a fresh dispute in Madhya Pradesh politics though numerous saffron camp bigwigs distanced themselves from the sadhvi’s words.
“Her utterance ought not to be viewed through a political lens,” said BJP state President Rakesh Singh who was present at the function.
This is certainly not the first time that Thakur’s statements have made headlines. Her remark regarding Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Vinayak Godse annoyed none other than Premier Narendra Modi himself. (UNI)
