DGCA blames SpiceJet for death of young technician in Dum Dum

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)has blamed SpiceJet for the death of the private airline’s technician Rohit Pandey in a freak accident after his neck got stuck between the hydraulic door flaps of the main landing gear of a Q400 aircraft at Dum Dum airport on July 10 last.

The initial report said the hydraulic doors “inadvertently” got closed, leaving Pandey trapped there, SpiceJet had said in a statement. The landing-gear doors of the Bombardier Q400 aircraft had to be broken to rescue him but he was declared dead, it said.

“  Pandey was doing maintenance work in right-hand main landing gear wheel well area of a Q400 aircraft which was parked in Bay No. 32 at Kolkata airport on July 10, 2019. Inadvertently, the main landing gear hydraulic door closed and he got stuck in between the hydraulic door flaps. The hydraulic doors were broken to rescue Pandey but he was declared dead. The entire SpiceJet family stands together in grief over
this unfortunate incident.”

The DGCA in the probe report said the negligence on the part of airlines led to the death of 21–year-old technician, who was not expert one to handle such freak accident. The victim was doing work alone in the absence of senior people of the airlines, that may have led to the accident, the DGCA report said.  (UNI)
