Bhubaneswar: Preparations are underway at the IMS and SUM
Hospital here for the first phase of the Covid-19 vaccination with a dry run being conducted on Friday.
The dry run, in other words a mock drill, was conducted at the hospital
which was one of the designated sites for clinical trial of the indigenous Covid vaccine, Covaxin, developed by Bharat Biotech and Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR).
Safety being of paramount importance, the detailed plan of an immunization session has been rolled out, Prof. E. Venkat Rao, professor in the Department of Community Medicine, IMS and SUM Hospital, said.
Prof. Rao, who is also the Principal Investigator in the clinical trial of Covaxin, said three designated rooms were used for the purpose of registration, vaccination and observation with deployment of assigned immunization officers and paramedical staff as per the guidelines of the central government.
Prof. Trilochan Sahu, Head of the department of Community Medicine, along with Dr. Lipilekha Patnaik, Dr. Jyoti Ranjan Sahu, Immunisation Officers Dr. Sumita Sharma and Dr. Smitav Barik were present.
