Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has provisionally attached amount of Rs 7.49 lakh lying in bank account of Ritu Khaitan with Delhi’s Connaught Place ICICI Bank branch as equivalent value of proceeds of crime under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Khaitan is an accused who has committed an offence punishable under the Black Money (Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets) and Imposition of Tax Act, 2015.
She held the beneficial interest, ownership in foreign assets and company, failed to disclose the same in her return of income filed before the Income Tax Authorities.
” She has been found laundering money in various other personal and bank accounts of companies in Singapore and Mauritius in which she has beneficial interest”, the probe agency said.
Further, she did not willfully disclose the relevant information related to the foreign bank accounts and companies which are owned by her, the agency added.
Investigation under the PMLA has revealed that the accused has maintained foreign bank accounts in her name, in the name of companies owned by her and in joint name with her father-in-law and husband in foreign jurisdiction namely Barclays Bank, Singapore and Bank of Singapore, Singapore.
