Union Minister of State for External Affairs Gen (Retd) V K Singh on Thursday said that “efforts are on” to ensure safe return of Air Force pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan, who is now in Pakistan custody.
Describing him as an “embodiment” of a mentally tough, selfless and courageous soldier, Gen Singh in a tweet wrote: “During these testing times, the country stands, as one, behind him and his family. Our efforts are on and under the Geneva Convention, we hope that the brave pilot would return home soon”.
Among others, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also tweeted: “Thoughts with the family, friends and colleagues of Wing Commander Abhinandan. Prayers for his early and safe return home to all those eagerly waiting for him”.
Meanwhile, in a missive on the micro-blogging site, actor Vicky Kaushal, who played the role of main protagonist in film ‘Uri – The Surgical Strike’, also said: “I bow down to the bravery and dignity of Wing Commander Abhinandan. Praying for your safe return”. (UNI)
