Eid-ul-Zuha was celebrated in Meghalaya with great enthusiasm and devotion on Monday. Thousands of men and children clad in new clothes and wearing skull caps offered prayers in Eidgahs or open grounds and mosques in Shillong, Dawki, Nongpoh, Lad Rymbai, Byrnihat and in the Garo Hills.
Governor Tathagata Roy and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma greeted the people on the occasion. Roy, who greeted fellow citizens of the state on the occasion, hoped “that the festival will promote peace, prosperity and harmony in the state”. “May this festival instil in each one of us the spirit of love, compassion and selflessness and further strengthen the bond of love, brotherhood, and camaraderie among fellow citizens for an all-inclusive growth and prosperity of the state,” Sangma greeted. Id-ul-Zuha (Bakr-Id), which is also known as Eid al-Adha or Id-ul-Adha is a festival that Muslims celebrate with special prayers, greetings and gifts.
