In the run up to general elections, three former legislators of Odisha Congress today deserted the party over ticket distribution issues.

Former Narla MLA Kumarmani Sabar, Ex MLA from Junagarh Gobardhan Dash and Ex MLA from Dharmagarh Jugaram Behera today submitted their resignation to Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Niranjan Patnaik today.

The leaders along with their supporters have resigned from party’s primary membership and other party positions citing partiality in ticket distribution.

In the resignation letter addressed to Patnaik, the leaders said,

“We have worked to strengthen Congress in the ground for two decades. However, we were ignored by the party during selections of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections,” wrote the leaders.

“While two members of a family were given party tickets; experienced leaders– who have been working for the party for decades– were denied the same. The demands of the party workers were ignored despite repeated attempts by them to raise the issue,” the leaders added.

They further alleged that a candidate from Bhawanipatna managed to secure the ticket for Narla Assembly constituency owing to partiality and preferential treatment by OPCC.
