Four TDP RS MPs including YS Chowdary quit party

Four TDP members in Rajya Sabha including former minister Y S Chowdary, quit the party on Thursday and submitted their resignation letter to Vice-President and Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu.

The other members — C M Ramesh, Garikapati Mohan Rao and T G Venkatesh — wrote a letter to the Rajya Sabha chairman to recognise ‘split’ in the party in the House of Elders and allot them separate seats.

BJP working president J P Nadda and party Leader of the Rajya Sabha Thawar Chand Gehlot accompanied the MPs when they met the Vice-President.

Mr Chowdary was MoS Science and Technology under Prime Minister Narendra Modi from November 2014 to March 2018.

Mr Chowdary, Mr Ramesh and Mr Venkatesh are members in the Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh while Mr Rao is a member from Telangana.

Mr Chowdary along with the then Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju had quit the Modi government in March 2018 when N Chandrababu Naidu led TDP decided to break the alliance from NDA.
