If the situation is normal why are Kashmiri leaders still under detention : Congress

New Delhi, Nov 15 (UNI) Attacking the BJP Government on the situation in jammu and Kashmir, the Congress on Friday said that if the situation in the valley is normal as was being claimed by the government to the world than why were the leaders of the valley still under detention.

Addressing the press here, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said,’ the mainstream leaders of the Kashmir valley are still under detention. Why is this being done if the situation is normal as claimed by the government.’

He said that it was surprisingly strange that a leader like Farooq Abdullah , who was a minister during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government, is under detention .

‘Mr Abdullah is an elected representative of the people in the lower house of Parliament and the session is to begin on Monday. If he continues to be under detention then how would an elected representative raise the voice of people in Parliament,’Mr Khera said.

He said that none of  Abdullah’s tweets were provcative. ‘Then why was he included with separatist leaders.

The government must tell why the leaders are kept under detention till now as there is no rationale of doing so.

The government claims that all is well in Kahsmir. If it is so, then why are the phones not ringing. There are no medicines in hospitals and people are upset due to lack of electricity, mobile services and mobile data service are not working,’ the Congress leader added.

The leaders detained under the PSA include former chief minister Farooq Abdullah. EX- chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti.

They are under detention since August 5.
