In poll season, model code ‘violations’ row reaches apex court

SC

The Supreme Court issued notice on Tuesday to the Election Commission on a petition filed by Indian National Congress leader, Sushmita Dev, seeking a direction to the poll panel for action for alleged model code of conduct violations by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah.
“Issue notice to ECI. We will hear the matter later,” the bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi,
ruled.
Ms Dev had moved the apex court seeking a direction to the ECI that it could take necessary decision on the complaints filed against Mr Modi and Mr Shah.
The next hearing of the case is slated for Thursday.
