Mangaluru, Sep 2 (UNI) In a joint operation, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) personels have rescued as many as 20 people,including 13 crew members on Board of a dredger Tridevi Prem, which reported sinking in the mid-sea, in the early hours of today. According to Karnataka Coastal Guard, sources, the captain of the dredger, had sent an SOS on Sunday, communicating a distress situation in his vessel following gushing of water in the pump-room. The NMDT and the Coast Guard officials swang into the action and rescued 13 crew members, who had abandoned the vessel after failed to rectify the problem, which resulted in gushing of water into the vessel. The NMPT and the Coast guard staff had also rescued seven others who had entered into the dredger, which was caught in the rough-sea. The dredger, was reportedly owned by a Mumbai based businessman, the sources said.
