INX Media: PC approaches apex court, seeking bail

Former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday moved the Supreme Court, seeking regular bail in the INX Media case regarding alleged irregularities in clearance by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board in 2007 during his watch.

A bench, led by Justice N V Ramana, after hearing the mentioning by Kapil Sibal, counsel for the veteran leader of the Indian National Congress, said Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi will decide on the hearing of his petition for bail.

Chidambaram, 74, has been in lockup in Delhi’s Tihar jail since September 5, after his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Defence had sought urgent hearing of the bail plea.

Chidambaram was denied bail by the Delhi High Court on Monday on the grounds that he might influence deponents if released.  (UNI)
