The last rites of Veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy, who passed away here on Sunday, will be held with full state honours on Monday. The decision to this effect was taken by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Sunday. He directed the Chief Secretary S K Joshi to make neccesary arrangements.The 77-year-old Reddy passed away at 1.30 am yesterday at Asian Institute of Gastroenterology Hospital in Gachibowli.
He was admitted to the hospital on July 20 with high fever and underwent treatment since then. His remains was later brought to his residence at Jubilee Hills. Senior TRS leader and Chairman of Telangana State Farmers Coordination Committee Gutta Sukhender Reddy said the mortal remains of Jaipal Reddy would be consigned to flames next to PV Ghat, the ‘samadhi’ of former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao at Necklace road between 1 pm and 1.30 pm this afternoon.
Before that, the funeral procession will begin at 9 am from his house and will be taken to Gandhi Bhavan, the TPCC headquarters. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President Uttam Kumar Reddy said the body of the departed leader would be kept at Gandhi Bhavan for party leaders and cadre to pay their last respects. Later it will be taken to Necklace Road for funeral. On behalf of Congress Party, Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad will be present at the last rites of Reddy.
Jaipal Reddy has been a parliamentarian since 1984. During his political career, Mr Reddy served as a Lok Sabha MP five times and was elected to the Rajya Sabha twice beside he was an MLA for four times. President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Governors Biswabhushan Harichandan and ESL Narasimhan, Chief Ministers– Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and K Chandrashekar Rao, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, AICC outgoing President Rahul Gandhi besides several leaders across the country condoled the death of Reddy.
