Jaishankar, Doval likely to assist Modi at delegation- level talks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping are all set for a series of rounds of discussions and deliberations in next two days during the second Informal Summit.

Besides the ‘tete-e-tete’ and talking while walking along the majestic Bay of Bengal on background, there will be delegation-level talks on Saturday in Mamallapuram .

According to sources, as expected, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar will be the key lieutenant assisting the Prime Minister during the parleys. Two other crucial protagonists in Indian diplomacy National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale will also be there.

From the Chinese side, those expected at the negotiating table alongside President Xi Jinping will be Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Ding Xuexiang, a powerful member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China.

Among others, sources said Yang Jiechi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC is also part of the Chinese President’s entourage.

The Prime Minister has already landed in Tamil Nadu while Mr Xi is expected to arrive by around 1400 hrs. (UNI)
