Lok Sabha to go paperless soon, announces Speaker Birla

New Delhi, Jul 31 (UNI) Lok Sabha, the House of the People, will become paperless within next two-three months or from the next session of Parliament, Speaker Om Birla announced in the House on Wednesday.He also said such a move will help save crores of rupees to the state exchequer.During the Zero Hour in the evening hours, Mr Birla told the members that various new initiatives will be taken in the Lok Sabha Secretariat to improve the functioning of the House.

However, he said any member needed paper he or she would be provided.Responding to certain observation from a BJP lawmaker Anil Firoziya, Speaker said he also sat behind the pillars in the House during the 16th Lok Sabha.Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal also said that members who sit behind pillars in Lok Sabha become “big people”.

Mr Firoziya (BJP), who represents Ujjain constituency in Madhya Pradesh, maintained that he sits behind a pillar and often he is not noticed.As the Lok Sabha chamber is circular, several some members have their designated seats hidden behind the pillars.
