In order to boost the morale of the workers at the grass-root level, he was highly appreciative of their efforts to turn the fortunes of the party.

“Today BJP has found acceptance among the people of the country owing to the sacrifices made by its cadre,” he claimed while recounting the earlier days of the party when many a BJP foot soldiers lost their lives to political violence.

“They were oppressed; killed in political bloodshed, yet never let the country down. Even at death, they kept the national flag flying high and shouted ‘Bharat mat ki jay’,” the prime minister said making an emotional pitch.

He also reminded the audience of the contributions of the party workers during natural calamities and their sacrifices to uphold democracy during emergency.

“There is this line that was very popular among the cadre. One foot on the train to spread your ideology across the country and the other foot in the jail trying to defend your values from the oppressors (Ek pair train mein, dusra jail mein). It is those sacrifices and those efforts that has given BJP acceptance among the public across the country and has made the party the behemoth that it is now.

Earlier in the day, before reaching Odisha, the Prime Minister had tweeted, “Results of #OdishaPolls2019 will surprise everyone as BJP will win with a record margin; people will reject both BJD & Congress”.
