A lower court today convicted a mason for raping a girl and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000.

Additional District Judge(ADJ) Kendrapara, Prangya Panigrahi while adjudicating the rape case convicted Jaydev Giri of Amarabati village under Talachua Marine police station for rape and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000.

If the convict failed to pay the fine then he would be imprisoned six months more in jail, the court ruled.

As per the prosecution on April 20, 2016 while the girl was waiting for an auto rickshaw to go to her sister’s house at Keruamala, Jaydev offered to drop her at her sister’s house in his bike.

But he took her to a lonely place and raped her thrice that night. On the next day the girl’s mother lodged an FIR at Talachua Marine police station after she narrated her plight to her sister and her mother.
Later, police registered a case and arrested the accused. (UNI)
