Pitching for “BJP Mukt” across the northeastern states and
along with the entire country, Meghalaya’s Leader of Opposition, Mukul Sangma
on Wednesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit
Shah will continue to push the agendas of the RSS.
“It cannot be expected from them to respect the sentiments of the people since
they are nominees of the RSS,” the veteran Congress leader said launching fresh
salvos on BJP’s stand on Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
Further, the former chief minister said, “The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill is no
longer a proposal and passing it is one of the pre-determined agendas of the
RSS-backed BJP. They tried its best to pass the Bill in the Rajya Sabha after
passing in the Lok Sabha despite strong opposition from the people.”
Describing Meghalaya’s regional parties, who are part of the BJP-led North
East Democratic Alliance and National Democratic Alliance, as “spineless,”
Sangma urged these political parties in Meghalaya to demonstrate what Asom
Gana Parishad did in Assam following the passing of the Citizenship
(Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha.”
